We are all in this together
The Twin Cities Musicians Union of the American Federation of Musicians is united in fellowship with the alliance of Minnesota labor, our houses of faith, our prevailing local leaders, and other dedicated voices of our community in the preservation of life and liberty for all our Minnesota neighbors. We view our Minnesota colleagues, whether newcomers to our state or the progeny of generations of American settlers, as protected by the foundational principles of our American republic: First Amendment freedoms of assembly, free speech, and peaceful protest, due process of law, and the sanctity of basic personal security and the privacy of family and home.
Minnesota integrates the contributions and personalities of many origins, all invited by our country’s pledge welcoming the world’s tired, poor, and homeless as valuable contributors and participants in our merged American culture. Music is a universal language with a broad and diverse artistic message which advances that historic American pledge. As musicians, we create art out of thin air that unites people with beauty, sonority, and love. We uniformly condemn actions from outside which seek to divide us and disrupt our citizens based on appearance and national origin.
The TCMU will continue to work with the American Federation of Musicians to oppose violence from an interfering and unwanted Immigration and Custom Enforcement surge operating under the flawed guise of immigration policy, and we will reinforce the essential message and American mission of compassionate and peaceful enjoyment of our towns and cities.
